In the turbulent interwar period, the Bauhaus school and its associated movement became a vehicle for radically new ideas of modernism, innovative practices and the harmony of content and form in art and design. In today's environmentally and energy-challenged age, there is a demand for a similarly ambitious initiative, linking the cultural, creative and utilitarian dimensions.
Zuzana Duchová will bring the report from the first New European Bauhaus Festival that took place in June and we hope to inspire each other and move forward the debate on how our environment (art, architecture, design) can be more sustainable, inclusive and beautiful and how the new EU interdisciplinary initiative interprets these three concepts.
Zuzana Duchová is a curator and publicist, she studied art history at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Bratislava and the University of Vienna, and defended her dissertation on cultural cities at the STU in Bratislava. In addition to her theoretical research on cultural life in cities, she has co-organized several events on the intersection of art, architecture, and creative tourism, and together with more than forty co-authors, she has published two books on Bratislava: BA! U-fu-tourist guide and BA!! places of living culture (1989 - 2016). She works for Creative Europe Desk Slovakia. Editor of Arch magazine, curator of the cultural refreshment salonik.sk.
